Forbes Most Powerful Women in Sports
Forbes is one of the leading magazines of the world and is famous for its rankings and lists of heroes of the different fields across the world. Recently, Forbes started to make a list of Most Powerful Women in Sports. The initiated is well praised by a lot of people and is proved to be helpful to give a huge boost to female heroes in the field of sports.
It was a proud moment for millions of Indians when the inaugural list of Forbes Most Powerful Women in Sports was announced. Nita Ambani, the owner of Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier Leage and Mithali Raj, the captain of Indian Women’s National Cricket Team have made it to the list. Ambani and Raj are placed 9th and 12th respectively on the list. The topper of the list is Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura, the first female secretary general of FIFA. Lydia Nsekera, the first woman elected to the Executive Committee of FIFA in 2013 is proudly standing on 2nd position. Mrs. Nsekera is also a part of the International Olympic Committee since 2009. The third name in the list is Florence Hardouin from France. She is the first female member of Executive Committee of UEFA.
Angela Dong, Vice President of Nike China is on 4th position. 5th spot is grabbed by Director of Chelsea Football Club, Marina Granovskaia. BBS Sport Director, Barbara Slater is placed 6th while 7th spot is taken by Moya Dodd, Member of Executive Committee of AFC. 8th, 9th & 10th places are taken by Caroline Wozniacki (Tennis Player from Denmark), Nita Ambani (Mumbai Indians’ owner) and Claire Williams (Deputy Team Principal & Commercial Director of Williams F1).
Mrs Ambani is also a member of International Olympic Committee. She was facilitated with Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award 2017 from the President of India for her involvement in the development of sports in India. She is the chairperson of Football Sports Development Ltd. that operates Indian Super League, a league who is proving to be a revolution in Indian Football.
Mithali Raj has been an inspiration for girls looking to pursue sport as a carrier. She has been playing cricket at International level since 1999. She has been honored with awards like Arjuna Award 2003, Padma Shri 2015, Youth Sports Icon of Excellence Award 2017, Vogue Sportsperson of the Year 2017 and BBC 100 Women List 2017. She is the first player to score 6,000 runs in ODIs.
Sports are known to play by men. These women are proving everyone wrong and creating histories. Their involvement in the sports, that too at the highest level must be admired and it is an excellent move by Forbes to start a list of Forbes Most Powerful Women in Sports. Women are now taking part in each and every field- whether it is technology, space, sport, social work or politics. They are certainly proving a lot of people wrong and showing the world that there is nothing they can’t do. Let’s start giving more respect to women.
